Hungarian Walnut Roll, or Beigli in its Hungarian name, is a traditional Christmas meal, typically stuffed with walnuts or poppy seeds. Folk belief is that walnuts should be eaten against spoilage and poppy brings abundance to the house. Beigli dough, like cakes, is a leavened dough made with yeast rolled in milk. This traditional variation contains ground walnut.
